“Meanings and Design”
Jurs has demonstrated a continual commitment to creating functional sculptures, blurring the lines between art and furniture. In the early years, creations bore a whimsical nature. As time progressed, pieces became multi-use while also commanding attention due to their strong visual impact, capturing the attention of viewers with their compelling aesthetic. Transitioning from Stoneware, Jurs is now delving into the realms of wood, expanding the horizons of these works.
Stoneware
Beauty from the earth
Jurs relishes the idea of finding beauty from humble dirty. Her early explorations into functional sculptures were often “tongue and cheek” responses to Wendell Castle pieces.
Wood
“Whimsy in wood”
In the past few years, Jurs has begun exploring unique table designs in wood, a departure from stoneware. Utilizing modern technology and tools to help bring her designs to life. She has been focusing on two different series, “NoTable” and “Sqwirl.” The “NoTable” are tables crafted to look like drapery of a table cloth. The explorations of a square base swirling into a round top is the “Sqwirl” series.
