Form / Function
“Form and Design”
Throughout Jurs’ career she has continually produced functional works, from table top pieces to wall shelves. As time progressed, works transitioned from white pieces with accents of color, to glazes with patinated copper. Her dedication to innovating her glazes is a through piece of her functional stoneware pottery.
Table top
Beauty from the earth
Just like much of Jurs work, her table top work explores femininity and beauty in everyday items. Blouses, shirts, and skirts become beautiful vessels for flowers. Bowls are glazed with beautiful abstract vistas. Early works were explorations in raku firing, today’s works are studies in metallic patinas in which she obtains the elegance of aged copper or bronze.
Baskets
“Carry-alls”
Early in her career Nancy explored raku firing and glazing where she developed large carrying vessels and baskets. This exploration led her to produce larger works later her in her career.
